What is New Zealand OSCE Performance Report (OPR)?

New Zealand Nursing Council(NZNC) has come up with a new update that will be very helpful to candidates who have failed OSCE. Candidates who have failed since October 2025 can now get a detailed OSCE Performance Report (OPR). This helps candidates to know where exactly they lost marks and how to improve their performance in the next attempt.

What is OPR?

OPR stands for OSCE Performance Report and is in essence a feedback system introduced by NZNC for nurses who failed in OSCE. OPR is a detailed report with which candidates can easily understand their performance and look for ways to improve in subsequent exams.

How important is OPR?

Ever since New Zealand OSCE came into existence, internationally qualified nurses (IQN) who failed the NZ OSCE had no idea what went wrong; no OSCE station breakdown, no feedback whether the mark lost was on communication, documentation, safety or some other important information. All they knew was whether it was a pass or fail in exam. Now that has a final solution, OPR.

Who is Eligible to get OPR?

Any candidate who has failed from 1st October 2025 onwards can request for an OPR.

What does the OPR include?

  • Detailed feedback from all 10 OSCE stations

  • Explanation of the key areas that impacted your performance

  • Information on which stations did not meet the required mark

  • Understanding of how your overall score was assessed through psychometric evaluation

  • A clear idea of the areas you need to improve before your next attempt

How can OPR help candidates?

Focused Preparation

Focused preparation based on actual performance gaps instead of revising everything again.

Reduced Retake Expenses

Better preparation planning can help avoid unnecessary repeat exam expenses, including the exam fee and accommodation costs.

Better Understanding of Examiner Expectations

Clearer understanding of what examiners expect and assess in each station.

Overcoming Repeated Error

Helps candidates identify and correct repeated mistakes before their next attempt.
